Why chips spread here
Salt Lake Valley mornings can start below freezing and end in afternoon sun. Glass expands and contracts with every swing, and that stress pushes outward from the weak point a chip creates. Defrosters, car washes and potholes do the same. That's why a chip you ignored in November is often a crack by January.
What a repair does
- We clean the break and remove trapped air and moisture with a vacuum injector.
- We fill it with a clear, optical-grade resin under pressure.
- UV light cures the resin hard, which restores strength and stops the spread.
- Most chips become much harder to see. The goal is strength first, looks second.
Can my chip be repaired?
As a rule of thumb, chips smaller than a quarter and short cracks up to about six inches can be repaired, as long as they are not right in the driver's line of sight or at the very edge of the glass. Try the repair-or-replace checker on our home page, or send us a photo and we'll tell you.
Insurance
Many comprehensive policies pay for chip repair with no deductible because it's cheaper than replacing the windshield. We'll check your coverage for you.
